For residents of locked-down Melbourne, a live webstream of a next of a pair of peregrine falcons and their chicks has become a symbol of freedom and a source of joy. The falcons have nested on a skyscraper in Collins Street for years, but their popularity has soared during lockdown. Dr Victor Hurley from BirdLife Australia says that a Facebook group dedicated to the falcons now has 11,600 members – up from ‘five or or six hundred’ only last year. ‘A lot of people in lockdown in Melbourne have been fascinated by this experience,’ he says. ‘That is understandable and delightful’
